Rajab This month, Rajab is the 7th month of the Moon Calendar. Rajab is a month to leave arrogance; it is a month to repent, to submit. It is a month full of Miracles. Most importantly Rajab is a month to plant the seeds of good deeds. Meaning behind its name: Rajab comes from the Arabic word “tarjeeb” meaning highly respected. This month is highly respected, it was not allowed to fight or go to war in this month. Rajab was also called “alasam rajab” because you couldn’t hear the clashing of the swords or weapons in this month. This month is also called “asab” because during Rajab Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’la especially sends his mercy, blessings, and forgiveness on His people. Specialty of Rajab: Rajab is one of the four sacred months that are mentioned in the Quran. Allah states: اِنَّ عِدَّۃَ الشُّہُوْرِ عِنْدَ اللّٰہِ اِثْنَا عَشَرَ شَھْرًا فِیْ کِتٰبِ اللّٰہِ یَوْمَ خَلَقَ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَ الْاَرْضِ مِنْھَا اَرْبَعَۃٌ حُرُمٌ ط ذٰلِکَ الدِّیْنُ الْقَیِّمُ فَلَا تُظْلِمُوْا فِیْھِنَّ اَنْفُسِکُمْ (پارہ ١٠، سورہ توبہ، آیت ٣٦) “Indeed the number of months before Allah is twelve – in the Book of Allah – since the day He created the heavens and the earth, of which four are sacred; this is the straight religion; so do not wrong yourselves in those months.” (Chapter 10, Surah Taubah, Verse 36) The Prophet Sallal lahu alaihi wasallam said, “Rajab is the month of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’la, Sha’ban is my month, and Ramadan is a month for my Ummah.” (Ma thabata minas sunnah p 170) In another place the Prophet Sallal lahu alaihi wasallam said, “Rajab’s specialty over all the other months is like the specialty of the Quran over all the books. Shaban’s specialty over all the other months is like the specialty of The Prophet Sallal lahu aliahi wasallam over all the Prophets. Ramadan’s specialty over all the other months is like the specialty of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’la over everything.” (Ma thabata minas sunnah p 173) One Specialty that Rajab has over all the other months, the thing that makes it unique is that The Prophet Sallal lahu alaihi wasallam went on the Journey to meet Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’la in this month. According to the Hadith, The Prophet Sallal lahu alaihi wasallam did this journey on the 27th of Rajab. Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’la chose this month to invite The Prophet Sallal lahu alaihi wasallam to meet Him. Salah was also gifted in Rajab. Our Responsibilities: Remember that a continuous smaller good deed is better than doing good deeds for a day and forgetting to do good for the rest of the month. Sarkar e Ghous e Azam Radi Allahu Anhu narrates from Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri Radi Allahu Anhu, the rewards in this month for a person who fasts: One day – He will please Allah and gain Paradise. Two days – Every good deed’s reward will be doubled, for a single good deed he will receive a reward equal to the mountains on earth. (Imagine that doubled) Three days – There will be a trench created in between him and Jahannam which would take a year to cross. Four days – He will be protected from sickness and the evilness of Dajjal. Five days – He will be protected from the punishment in the grave. Six days – On the Day of Judgment his face will shine bright like a full moon. Seven days – The Seven doors of Jahannam will be closed for him. Eight days – The Eight doors of Jannat will be open for him. Nine days – When Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’la commands everyone on the Day of Judgment to rise, he will rise reading the Kalimah and his face will be towards Jannat. Ten days – On Pul Sirat there will be a comfortable bed for him. Eleven days – On the Day of Judgment he will be raised higher than the norm. Twelve days – He will receive two sets of clothing on the day of Jannat, one set will be worth more than everything in this world combined. Thirteen days – On the Day of Judgment he will be under the shade of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’la’s shade eating different kinds of food. Fourteen days – A special reward will be given to him on the Day of Judgment, a reward that we cannot even imagine. Fifteen days – On the Day of Judgment, either a Prophet or an Angel will congratulate him. Sixteen days – He will be in the front row to talk and see Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’la Seventeen days – Allah will make the journey of Pul Sirat easy on him Eighteen days – On the Day of Judgment he will get to stay with Hazrat Ibraheem Alaihis Salam Nineteen days – He will live in a Palace in Jannat that will be in between the Palaces of Hazrat Adam and Hazrat Ibraheem. Twenty Days – All his sins will be forgiven and he will be showered with mercy from Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’la. (Ghunyat ut Talibeen p 352) Keep in mind that fasting does not mean to starve, it means to stay away from food, water, and most importantly sins. Hazrat Abdullah ibn Zubair Radi Allahu anhuma narrates, “The person who makes his Muslim brother’s sadness go away Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’la will grant him a palace in Jannat. The person that respects the month of Rajab, Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’la will high his seniority a thousand times.” (Ghunyat ut Talibeen p 355) Hazrat Sulaiman Farsi Radi Allahu Anhu says that The Prophet Sallal lahu alaihi wasallam said, “A person that gives Sadqah in Rajab no matter the amount, Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’la will give him the reward of giving a thousand dinar in Sadqah. Good deeds will be written for each hair on his body, and Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’la will higher his good deeds a thousand times, and erase his thousand bad deeds.” (Ghunyat ut Talibeen p 357) Make sure you give Fatiha especially on the 4th, 6th, 22nd, and 27th of this month. Ala Hazrat Alaihi Rahma states that the 4th of Rajab is known for the Urs of Khwajgan. Hazrat Khwaja Abdur Raheem Mashriqi, Hazrat Khwaja Abdul Kareem Maghribi, Hazrat Khwaja Abdur Rasheed Shimali, Hazrat Khwaja Abdul Jaleel Junoobi Rahimahumu Allahu Ta’la. You should mention them in your prayer, and also Imam Muhammad bin Idrees Shafiee Alaihir Rahma (Imam Shafiee) should be included. 6th of Rajab is known throughout the world as “Chatti Shareef” for Hazrat Sultan ul Hind Khwaja Ghareeb Nawaz Alaihir Rahma. You should also include Hazrat Khwaja Hassan Basri, Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz (1st Mujaddid), Hazrat Malik bin Dinar, Hazrat Ibraheem bin Adham, Hazrat Imam Muslim and Hazrat Imam Nawwi Rahimahumu Allahu Ta’la in your prayers.
